Reflective Supervision

spaces for reflection, responsibility and empathy

Supervision originally developed as support for helping professions — roles in which people carry great responsibility for others, work close to life realities and navigate complex tensions. Today, this description applies just as much to municipal administrations.

As a supervisor, I offer ongoing conversations with you as an individual, with your team or with your leadership group. I create a safe space for reflection, clarification and development.

Questions you may be asking

  • How can we fulfil our professional role in contact with citizens responsibly, clearly and with empathy?
  • How do we relate to one another – within the team and across hierarchies?
  • What roles, expectations and tensions shape our collaboration?
  • How do we experience changes in the organisation and its environment – and what impact does this have on us?
  • How can we, as a team, get through stressful times while staying connected and effective?

What Supervision Offers in Public Administration

Supervision creates ongoing spaces for reflection beyond everyday operational demands. It strengthens:

It strengthens

  • Professional clarity and confidence
  • Collaboration and mutual support
  • Empathy within the team and towards others

How I work

With a curious eye for the concerns of individuals, the organisation and the partner or client system, I support processes such as noticing change, recognising role ambiguities and making lines of conflict visible.

Working with me is also creative and dynamic — and there’s room for laughter. Humour, movement and attention to space often open up surprising access points that make it easier to address topics that feel difficult.

In doing so, I see how shared reflection helps teams and individuals identify next steps they can carry forward into their everyday practice.

Role: Reflective Supervision for a group

For a real estate developer promoting rental-based communal living, I accompanied the group formation process of a residential community. As a supervisor and process facilitator, I supported the group in identifying and addressing the key questions of living together. Through this reflective process, they developed a shared understanding of how they want to live, along with the guiding principles and agreements to support it.
