Conflict Transformation & Resolution

addressing tensions, enabling action

I support municipalities and local initiatives in identifying and constructively addressing conflicts at an early stage.
Cities face the task of developing sustainably — ecologically, economically and socially, in the interest of the common good. In doing so, differing ideas about how urban spaces should be shaped for people and the environment often collide.

Local democracy does not mean the absence of conflict, but the capacity for mutual understanding — especially in times of tension. When tensions remain unaddressed, they can block processes and erode trust. When they are taken up early, however, they open space for clarification and new options for action.

Typische Anlässe

  • Escalating dynamics in participation or dialogue processes in urban development (e.g. infrastructure for the energy transition, inner-city densification, new neighbourhood developments)
  • Tensions within project or steering groups (e.g. advisory boards, project teams for neighbourhood development)
  • Conflicts between administrative units or hierarchical levels
  • Conflicts at the interfaces of administration, politics and external actors (e.g. citizen initiatives, investors)
  • Conflicts in communal housing projects, building cooperatives and self-organised initiatives

How I Work

Depending on the situation, I work in ways that are mediative, facilitative or broadly conflict-clarifying. I combine mediation with systemic organisational consulting, conflict analysis and moderation.

I offer a free 30-minute conversation to explore possible ways forward in challenging situations.

What Is Mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary and structured process for resolving conflicts.
The participants are the experts on the content and possible solutions; the mediator facilitates the process impartially, confidentially and without decision-making authority.
Mediation creates a safe framework for mutual understanding and sustainable agreements.
